Breast cancer awareness: How to check your breasts | Bupa Health

Breast self-examination is a simple and important way for individuals to become familiar with the normal look and feel of their breasts. By performing regular self-exams, you can more easily notice any changes, such as lumps, pain, or skin changes, which could be signs of breast cancer. To do a breast self-examination, look at your breasts in the mirror for any visible changes, then feel your breasts while lying down and standing to check for unusual lumps or thickening. It’s best to perform the examination at the same time each month, ideally a few days after your period ends, as breasts can feel different during the menstrual cycle. If you notice anything unusual, it's important to consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
